Ever since the FDA passed the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, one of its main purposes was to safeguard American consumers. The big problem with the FDA is that they haven’t been doing a very good job of this in the last thirty years. Genetically Modified Foods(GMO’s) have proven to be disastrous to our health but yet they still find their way into most of our foods. Pesticides have been shown to cause severe health complications such as asthma and allergies, yet the FDA still allows mass quantities to be sprayed onto our farmlands. Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (RBGH) has been linked to many cancers, yet millions and millions of pounds of this deadly substance get injected into our cattle each year. 

How is this possible you might ask? Sadly, the FDA and the USDA have become extremely political and been bought out by massive corporations that have a lot of power. Basically, the American food system has become so dominated by large food companies that the FDA is no longer doing their job at keeping us safe. Even worse, more and more dangerous ingredients get added to our food supply every single year and yet government officials seem to just turn their backs on it.

The approval of Aspartame by the FDA is a perfect example of this blatant disregard by our government towards its citizens. Aspartame, which is one of the main ingredients in over 80% of America’s diet products,  has been approved for over three decades despite the FDA knowing that this is a toxic poison. Aspartame has sickened more people than any other ingredient in our food supply and the #1 most reported health complaint of any ingredient consumed by American citizens.

Aspartame should have NEVER been approved in the first place.

1. This deadly toxin was discovered while doing peptic ulcer research. Some nutritionists will say that every time you drink a diet soda, you’re getting a small dose of ulcer medication.

2. One of the first studies ever done on aspartame prior to FDA approval became a death sentence to all of the subjects tested.  The very first study was conducted on seven infant monkeys. Five of the monkeys had gran mal seizures and one of them died. Shockingly, Aspartame was still passed.

3. Early studies also indicated that the drug causes severe problems to the liver and testes. Shockingly, Aspartame was still approved.

Diet Soda Makes You FAT!!!

Contrary to popular belief, zero calorie drinks such as Diet Coke will not help you keep off the weight. In fact recent studies have shown the exact opposite. A small but growing body of evidence is now suggesting that diet soda actually contributes to weight gain in people who consume it on a regular basis. In the words of Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin in their #1 NY Times bestselling book, “Skinny Bitch”, “Whenever you see the words fat free or low fat, think of the words “chemical shit storm”. This couldn’t be more true when it comes to diet soda.  Just for the record, the chief ingredient in 95% of all diet products is Aspartame.  Aspartame has been linked to a plethora of health problems including arthritis, birth defects, fibromyalgia, lupus, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, impaired kidney function, migraine headaches, endocrine disruption, anemia, infertility, etc. The list is acually 11 pages and is too long to put in this article. In fact, Aspartame is the #1 most reported substance in our entire food supply where people are having adverse reactions or side affects. The truth is, there have been a tremendous amount of reactions reported (Over 7,000 officially reported to the USDA alone between 1982 and 1995) and unofficially more than 700,000 cases since 1982 given a USDA reporting rate of about 1% accuracy. But back on to the topic of how diet soda makes you fat (more on aspartame another day), I have 3 words for you. You ready for it, Drumroll PLEASE, “Cephalic Brain Response(CBR). Now, I am not a medical doctor nor naturpathic physician and I don’t have a PHD in Molecular Biology, but here is what the jist of the CBR in simple terms. The Cephalic Brain Response is:

1. The brain has a conditioned response in reaction to eating something sweet throughout thousands of years of evolution.

2. As the tongue tastes something sweet, a series of biochemical  events takes place.

3. The liver stops the manufacture of protein and starch from it’s body reserves and it begins to store the glucose energy that circulates in the blood.

4. But when no calories appear in the stomach, this causes the body to demand real food with resulting hyper urges from the liver to overeat, or to drink more of the sweet tasting liquid.

5. Almost instantly, the body starts producing insulin(the fat hormone) and programs the adipose tissue(belly fat) to store, store, store.

6. The urge to ingest food can last from 1 to 2 hours after ingesting the beverage because no real food or calories has satiated the body’s need for nutrients and energy.

Splenda not so “Splendid”

Hey thought everyone would like to know some information about sucralose since so many of you use them them on a regular basis. I have done extensive research on every single sythetic sweetener available on the market including aspartame, saccahrin, high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, etc.. For the purposes of this article, I will stick to sucralose which is the main ingredient in Splenda. Basically all the synthetic sweeteners we use today in all of the diet drinks and sugar free foods are probably worse than the real thing. The truth is most people don’t use them because they like the taste better, they use them because they are zero calories.  Shockingly, the approval of our favorite zero calorie sweeteners looks something like a movie you would see on CNN. Payoffs, Bribery, Lies, Deception, Cover Ups, etc.  It is such as huge topic that there are hundreds of books dedicated to the subject.  Bottom line, zero calorie sweeteners are very toxic, make you fat, and were only approved in the first place because of some key people (who happened to make alot of money from it). Sucralose was discovered in 1975 by an Indian Graduate Student who was doing research at the time in London on insectacides and pesticeds. He was dripping a chlorinated sugar molecule in a lab experiment when his adviser asked him to test the subject. Due to the language barrier that existed, he thought the adviser said “taste” the subject. And the rest of the story is history. It ended up getting sold to Tate and Lyle, one of the largest sugar manufactures in the world and was approved in 1998. Sucralose, the main ingredient in Splenda has been linked to diabetes, obesity, peptic ulcers, and a slew of other health problems. There is too much information on this topic, so you will have to wait for my book to come out which will have an entire chapter on this issue. But yet somehow it ends up in mass quantities in our food supply. As the American culture gets fatter and fatter, everyone seems to be scratching their heads as to where we went wrong. They might want to educate themselves more on this topic so that they can become healthier and not rely on the FDA and USDA which has had their heads far up each others asses for years.
